PENSACOLA, Fla. - Gov. Ron DeSantis is proposing a state budget increase of more than $100 million to better fund the Florida National Guard and re-establish a Florida State Guard civilian force. The state guard, establishe in World War II then disbanded, would be controlled by the governor and used during emergencies, like natural disasters. The plan would establish for the Florida National Guard three new armories, a new headquarters for the National Guard Counter Drug Program and provide support for Florida National Guardsmen seeking higher-education degrees.
