Airport gets federal grant

Two transportation agencies in Mobile, Ala., are getting a combine $100 million in federal grant money to support several projects, including construction of the new airport terminal at the Mobile Aeroplex. The Mobile Airport Authority will get $62 million, which will go to the $252 million terminal project. The new terminal is expected to open by 2024. Mobile is shifting its commercial airport from Mobile Regional Airport in west Mobile to the downtown location. The Alabama State Port Authority is getting $38 million. The grant is from the U.S. Department of Transportation Demonstration Program. The grant was financed through the fiscal year 2021 appropriations bill, and Mobile is the only recipient of the grant money.  (Source: Aviation Pros, 03/03/22)
