Ground broken on Airbus plant

MOBILE, Ala. – Ground was broken today at Brookley Aeroplex on the $600 million Airbus A320 final assembly line. Industry, state and local officials were in town to mark the official start of the plant that will eventually employ 1,000 workers and build the most popular passenger airplane in the Airbus lineup. "We have the commitment here to create a world-class product and our work force is key," said Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, adding that the facility is going to benefit the entire region. "Thanks to Mobile, the sun will never set on Airbus," said Fabrice Bregier, president and CEO of Airbus. The company currently has plants in France, Germany and China. Officials from JetBlue, which will take the first delivery of a plane assembled at the Brookley plant, were also on hand for the groundbreaking. (Source:, 04/08/13)
