TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — The semi-annual Checkered Flag exercise, one of the Defense Department's largest air-to-air exercises, was launched at Tyndall Air Force Base this week. Held over two weeks, it's designed to integrate fourth- and fifth-generation airframes. It involves more than 90 aircraft and personnel from 16 U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy units that will train together in 20 aerial events during the two weeks. The exercise has been held since 1963.
