SLS Green Run expected in November

STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss. - The Green Run hot fire test of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket is expected in early November. The test of the rocket’s core stage and all of its integrated systems is a key step before the Artemis I lunar mission, scheduled for 2021. The test will be on the B-2 Test Stand at NASA's Stennis Space Center in South Mississippi. The hot fire is the final in a series of eight tests that ensure the stage’s systems are functioning and ready for operation. The test replicates the launch by loading the propellants and allowing them to flow throughout the system as the four RS-25 engines fire simultaneously to demonstrate that the engines, tanks, fuel lines, valves, pressurization system, and software can all perform together just as they will on launch day. Following the test, NASA will ship the core stage to the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where it will be assembled with the other parts of the Artemis I rocket and the Orion spacecraft. Airbus marks milestone

MOBILE, Ala. - Airbus commercial aircraft production in the U.S. has reached a milestone, marking five years since aircraft production began in the Mobile-based campus. A recent report from the University of South Alabama Center for Real Estate & Economic Development concluded that the Airbus manufacturing facility’s total economic impact in Mobile and Baldwin counties in five years was $1.1 billion and supporting more than 12,000 jobs through construction and payroll alone. When extended to the state of Alabama, it was $1.2 billion and more than 15,000 jobs. HT-8 changes leadership

NAVAL AIR STATION WHITING FIELD, Fla. - Helicopter Training Squadron Eight (HT-8) welcomed its new leader on Sept. 10 during an in-flight change-of-command ceremony here. Cmdr. Lena C. Kaman relinquished command to Cmdr. Patrick C. O’Neill after she served fifteen months at the helm. O’Neill assumes command of the Navy’s oldest active helicopter training squadron, the “Eightballers.” Designted a naval aviator in March 2005, O'Neill's first operational tour began in January 2006 with the “Warlords” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Five One (HSL) in Atsugi, Japan.
