Ground broken for new terminal
LAFAYETTE, La. – There was a ceremonial groundbreaking at Lafayette Regional Airport for a new terminal. The airport was constructed in the 1950’s and got a facelift in the 80’s, but after a record number of passengers in 2017, the expansion was considered necessary. Steven Picou, Executive Director of the airport, said the current terminal can’t be easily expanded, and the new one will be built with the future in mind. It will be 110,000 square feet, larger than the current 62,000 square foot terminal. Construction will take about two-and-a-half years.
