FORT RUCKER, Ala. – South Alabama's Fort Rucker, home of Army aviation training, will lose 186 soldiers and an unspecified number of civilians by Sept. 30, 2018. The cuts are due to a planned Army-wide reduction of 40,000 soldiers and 17,000 civilians. The Aviation Center of Excellence itself is expected to lose about 68 percent of the 186 soldiers, according to a Fort Rucker news release. (Source:
