United Technologies to buy Goodrich

United Technologies Corp. will buy Goodrich Corp. for $18.4 billion, including $1.9 billion in net debt assumed. Closing on the deal is subject to customary approvals. Once completed, United Technologies, of Hartford, Conn., is expected to have worldwide sales of $66 billion based on projected 2011 results, as well as a stronger position in the aerospace and defense industry. Goodrich, based in Charlotte, N.C., supplies landing gear, aircraft wheels and brakes to the aerospace and defense industry.
