Airport plan released

MOBILE, Ala. — A new $160 million, eight-gate terminal is the highlight of a master plan for the Mobile Downtown Airport. The Mobile Airport Authority said more than half its potential customers go to other states rather than using the current airport in west Mobile because of ticket prices and traffic congestion. The new plan might eliminate both issues. The 20-year plan calls for the eight jet bridge gates and a parking garage. Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the $403 million investment over 20 years will be well worth it. After the new terminal is built, the Mobile Regional Airport would likely be utilized by the Coast Guard and some industrial and cargo flights. (Source: WPMI, AviationPros, 08/04/20)
